Starting 2009 as a new Sec 1 Student

I have been exposed to a lot of new things: friends, teachers and a new environment with new challenges. It has not been easy to adapt to these new things during the first few days of school and to be honest; I found it very tiring to come to school. On some nights, I even wished that I would fall sick and be excused from school the next day.

In fact, the only things I was hoping for during the first week were: the end of school and the weekends. However, at the thought of having to go to school the next day, that same wish would reappear in my mind again.

In the first week of school, I began as a lone ranger, spending my recesses away at the queues of the bookshop, or just walking around listlessly, waiting for time to go by.

You might think that I had wasted my first week away, but that’s not true. Now, I have much more confidence, I spend more time during the recess breaks with my friends (even if it means postponing my trip to the bookshop), I spoke up more in class, and I knew that I was slowly picking up. All these would not be possible if not for all the buffer time I had during the first week.

I hope that I would be able to cope with school life as early as possible, and just as much as I want to have a meaningful year ahead, here's wishing you a great 2009!

A slow start but I like the way you adapted and are actively participating. A number of students have mentioned the long days. Hang in there. Mr. S.
